Job Summary:  Reporting to the Melt Manager, the Melt Supervisor coordinates the activities of workers engaged in molten metal melting operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Examines materials for conformance to customer quality specifications.
  • Supervises operation of melting furnaces and launder system.
  • Observes furnaces, launder system and crucibles for malfunction and orders adjustments or repairs or directs workers to make adjustments or repairs to ensure that the equipment will operate at maximum efficiency, within operating perimeters, safely and correctly.
  • Interprets specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department or work crew.
  • Trains operators and work crew on proper and safe operation of equipment.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Works with HR and EHS to understand and interpret company policies to workers and supports execution of same.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
  • Prepare production and other reports.
  • Evaluates performance; appraising and providing appropriate feedback to employees.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience working within a Melt department preferred.
  • Must be team-oriented and have demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift license.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Team Leader and melt crew

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 + years’ supervisory experience.

Work Environment:

Ability to work in conditions which may include seasonal hot and humid conditions, dust, noise and other elements for extended periods of time.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, exempt position.  Work scheduled may include working weekends as well as during shutdowns and holidays.
